Transitioning Your Summer Dresses Into Fall

Happy Monday! I got so much sleep this weekend!! Ever since we got Stella in June I haven't been able to sleep in once. She usually has me up around 6 or 7, but Saturday I got to sleep in till 10. It was so nice and I'm definitely feeling refreshed for the week!

Today I'm sharing how you can transition your favorite summer dresses into the fall season. Once fall hits we all typically just push our summer clothes to the side and tend to reach for the sweaters and dark colors. Well, what if I told you your summer clothes can stay out all season long.. because they can!

This was a dress that was sitting tucked in my closet that hasn't been worn since last summer. I wanted to wear it again, realized it was fall and put it back. I kept going back to it so I finally decided to figure out how I can make this piece fall appropriate, which in the end didn't take much. My only advice would be to tone down the bright colors with darker or more neutral pieces. A denim jacket is definitely one of my favorite pieces to have for fall because they go with everything and give each look a more casual vibe. I added the black belt bag (which I LOVE btw) to try and break up the bright colors and my favorite white sneakers to pull it all together.

Transitioning your summer dresses into fall really is as easy as throwing on a denim or leather jacket and some booties!

Three Ways To Style Your Favorite Fall Dress

Happy Friday, friends! I'm excited to finally share todays post with you all - I shot these looks last month while in New York and had so much fun putting it all together! Up until I decided to make Refresh Fridays a thing on my blog, I would've never thought about styling a dress like this all the ways I did. But now I can get a lot more use out of this dress this season! Here's some inspiration to help you find more ways to style your favorite fall dresses.

Look 1: This is how you would typically wear this dress majority of the time, by itself. This dress is all around gorgeous so I don't do much styling to it and just go with my everyday booties. Last fall, however, I did style it with a fur vest and it was the prettiest combo!

Look 2: I don't know why I never thought to put these two pieces together before because I am obsessed with how they go together! Pairing a dress with a skirt gives you so many options for wearing your favorite dresses. Just grab the skirts you have in your wardrobe and start trying on different dresses with them, you'll be surprised!

Look 3: This makes for a great everyday fall look. I tucked the front of the dress in to give it more of that shirt feel and I'm totally loving this look. You could easily layer a look like this with a cardigan or for this specific look I'd pair it with a fur vest.

The Shirt Dress That Meets All The Office Rules

I think I can speak for all of us ladies when I say that finding a dress that's both office appropriate and cute is the best thing ever! No matter what type of office you work in, this is a dress that everyone should have in their wardrobe.

I actually snagged this dress a few years ago at Express and at the time I didn't have a job where it was appropriate to wear this to, so I wore it to different events and birthday dinners. Making great use out of a dress some would consider as being just for work! This dress is also all around easy to style. I've worn it with both nude and black heels and have added more accessories depending on where I was wearing it to.

Express is one of my favorite places to shop for dresses like this. I recommend going in store if you're specifically looking for a shirt dress, they seem to always have more options than they do online. But if you are shopping online the sizing on these dresses runs tts. I'm wearing an XS and think the fit is just fine! If you're shopping on a budget, wait for the sales. Dresses like these typically range from $70-80 and while the clothes at Express are amazing quality and so worth the money, I'll hardly ever pay full price for something (unless it's something I really want and am worried it will sell out if I wait).

Tips For Mixing Styles

Happy Monday, friends! Today on the blog I wanted to talk about something I've been loving to do lately, mixing styles. Months ago you would never see me mixing styles - I thought I didn't know how and was too embarrassed it would look silly. But it's all about getting outside of your comfort zone and that's what I love about fashion so much, all it takes is a piece of clothing to allow you to do that.

This was one of the first looks that I really mixed styles with and I still love the way it turned out. Here are a couple tips to help you mix styles:

1. Don't look at something as just being dressy, etc.: I always looked at this skirt as one of my dressy items and would always search for a nice sweater or dress top to pair with it. I decided to stop looking at my wardrobe with labels, do the same. You'll realize how much you actually have in your wardrobe that you don't reach for.

2. Just throw things together: 100% not kidding. This is how majority of my looks come together. I get a vision in my head, go to my clothes, pick a bunch out and try them all on. It helps you get an idea for what works and doesn't work and sometimes you'll get more than one outfit out of it!

3. Get inspiration from Pinterest or other bloggers: I have a few bloggers that I always go to their Instagram page when I need some outfit inspiration. When it comes to mixing styles I like to get inspiration from @weworewhat

4. Confidence: When I first started blogging I always played it safe (whatever that even means) with everything I wore. I never liked it when people stared me down places I went, but the truth is no matter what you're wearing there will always be those people who have a look on their face. You just have to ignore and wear what makes you happy!

PS: These earrings were NOT intended for this look. After Tyler and I shot it and were halfway back to the apartment I realized I was wearing the wrong earrings 😂
