3 Month Baby Update!

I can't believe Isabella is 3 months old today! Can I just rewind time and snuggle with my one week old baby again?! But seriously, this has been the greatest three months of my life and I have loved seeing all the ways Izzy has grown! These monthly updates seem to be one of my most viewed posts so I'm going to take that as you guys love these updates. Here's what's new with Isabella..

Little munchkin had her two month checkup last month and she weighed 9 lbs 3.2 oz! When we brought her home from the hospital she weighed 5 lbs 10 oz, so to us she's grown a lot. Her pediatrician said she's doing great and that she should be due for a growth spurt sometime soon. I've been so hesitant to buy her new clothes because I don't know how much she'll grow! But this past week we have been noticing that newborn onesies are starting to become a tight fit on her.. FINALLY!

Her sleep schedule hasn't changed a whole lot since last month. Three days a week I work weird hours so I'm not home to control when she naps - We're still following Mom's on Call and I've been trying to be more strict with the sleep schedule. She does great overnight though! Lately she's only been waking up around 2/3 a.m and majority of the time it's because she needs changed or can't find her pacifier. She will have her nights where she wakes up more than once, but we can't complain.. we get good sleep! We've also stopped swaddling Izzy a little after 2 months old. My personal opinion about swaddling, we just felt like we were suckered into it because it's what everyone is doing and if you don't swaddle your baby then you're parenting wrong and your baby will have bad sleeping habits, right? WRONG. It's something Tyler and I discussed and agreed on doing and to each their own! If you swaddle, good for you - If you don't swaddle, good for you. It was just our own personal choice and we've found that Izzy sleeps better without one.

I feel like Izzy also has such a big personality for just being 3 months. She smiles and makes those cute little baby noises ALL THE TIME, but like when she's not in the mood she's really not in the mood and she'll serve you her poker face. Also if she's hungry and you're taking too long to get to her, she WILL let you know. Basically what I'm trying to say is my daughter is a drama queen already at 3 months old 😂

I wasn't kidding, her poker face is serious 😂

A few other baby updates I wanted to document:

  • She's not a fan of sitting down, she always wants you to hold her so she can try to stand up. I'm still convinced she's going to be walking early [but like obviously not next month, I mean just in the early stages of when some babies start to walk].
  • My dad has started putting on Baby's First channel for her in the evenings and she loves it. She's lay in her rocker watching tv and smiles/makes noises the whole time.
  • Bath time is her JAM. She sits in her little tub just chilling while I bath her, it's the cutest thing.
  • She's starting to realize she has hands! She tries to eat them all the time and is constantly grabbing at thing [note to self: stop wearing necklaces before Izzy rips them off because babies are strong].
  • She moves.. A LOT! We'll wake up in the middle of the night and she will be completely sideways in her crib.
  • We have playtime every morning after breakfast and she loves her activity mat!
  • She's already been to her first wedding and visited my alumni [of course I had to buy her some cute PSU gear].

Honestly I could go on forever about her, but that's all of the relevant updates for this month! Thanks for reading!

How To Style A Slip Dress For Colder Weather

If you follow me on Instagram than you already know that this slip dress is my absolute favorite. I originally bought it back in the summer for maternity pictures - Basically I just wanted something inexpensive because I probably wasn't going to wear it that much. I snagged this dress for under $50 and I wear it every chance I get, win win!

I've shared plenty of ways you can wear this in the warmer months and I also wanted to share ways you can incorporate it into your fall/winter wardrobe!

I LOVE this look! I've seen slip dresses styled like this plenty of times, but I never thought I could be one to pull it off. It's such a simple look that has a lot of personality and it could be worn for any occasion (add a blazer overtop and it becomes more work place friendly!)  I decided to finish this look off with a pair of booties keeping it very minimal, and I would've loved to add a belt to this look but I didn't have one that would pair right. You could also have some fun and substitute the solid colored turtleneck to one with animal print!

'Tis the season for thermal tops and YES, thermal tops can be paired with slip dresses. This is such a great look if you want that dressy, casual feel. My tip for pairing shirts/sweaters with dresses is to put a belt under the shirt then tuck it in. To me, that just makes it look more put together versus throwing on a shirt and just having it hang there. To keep the look more casual I finished it off with a pair of slip-ons and threw a leather jacket over top. You can also make this look more dressier by pairing it with booties instead!

This look is great for the workplace and you can go about this so many ways! For instance, with this specific blazer I loved pairing the leopard skinny belt with it. You can also opt for a more oversized blazer and rock a Gucci knockoff belt with it. This dress would also work with different colored blazers as well! Pair it with a blush blazer for a monochromatic look, do white, nude, olive green.. I mean, this look really is so versatile!

Last but not least, my favorite look! I think it's the color scheme that gets me, but this entire look is just YES and again it's versatile. You can pair this with so many other sweaters and me personally, I chose to use my belt trick to keep the look more polished. If you choose not to do the belt tuck, I suggest adding a leather jacket to the mix to layer it up.

I like to share multiple ways to wear a specific piece as a starting point to inspire you guys to get creative and show you that there are so many ways you can wear the pieces hanging in your closet. Don't be afraid to put your spin on things and contour it to your personal style!

2 Month Update: Balancing Mom Life + Work Life

When I say this has been the best two months of my entire life, I MEAN IT. I'll probably say this every month but it really does feel like just yesterday I was pregnant with Isabella. Time flies and she's grown so much within these two months!

She is FINALLY starting to fit into her newborn clothes! Thank goodness because the few premie onesies we had for her were getting old. Last time we were at the pediatrician she weighed almost 8 pounds so I'm excited to see how much she's gained at her 2 month checkup tomorrow! She's starting to be a lot more awake and alert which I love. Every time I get her to smile it just melts my heart!! She also has been moving around SO much. She's learned how to hold her head up and if you're holding her she'll basically swing her head around like a crazy person and head-but you (she's lucky she's cute). And just recently she started going haywire with her legs. When she's in her swing or you're holding her sitting down she'll try to push herself away and every time I hold her to have her standing up she'll hold herself up (if all of that even makes sense). Mark my words, girlfriend is going to be a runner!

We're still following the Mom's On Call schedule for her. When I went back to work I wasn't as strict with it and I started to notice a change in her routine so recently I've started to become more strict with keeping her schedule on point. I've learned that just because one day goes a certain way does not mean the next will be the same and that's OK. For the most part she's pretty good with following her daytime schedule but when it comes to nighttime things get tricky. Some nights she'll only wake up once, others she's just not having it. She's two months old, I'm not expecting her to sleep through the night already. When she's ready, she's ready but MOC has been such a helpful method to follow!

As if taking care of a newborn wasn't a full-time job within itself I've decided to go back to work. At first it was strange being away from Izzy for so long, I'm pretty sure I sat there half the day just looking at pictures of her 😂 But, having a job I love made it easier going back. Trying to find a healthy balance between mom life and work life has definitely been a challenge, but each week that goes by it seems to get easier. I got myself a new planner and starting writing out each week and that has really helped with balancing everything out. I've also tried to get myself into a daily routine.. I got the morning routine down now it's time to get my evening routine down to one that doesn't stress me out. But at the end of the day my first priority is being a mom, so if something doesn't get done well than it just doesn't get done. You can't always do it all and I think that's the number one thing you have to remind yourself of if you want to create a healthy balance between mom life, working and everything in between.

I hope you all enjoyed this month's update as you did the last! Thanks for reading!

Five Tips For A Productive Monday

Happy Monday, friends! It's a gloomy start to the week so I figured what better time to share my tips for having a productive Monday than today?

1. Create a to do list. I will always swear by lists when it comes to getting things done! Before I had Izzy I would create a to do list almost everyday and after I had her I stopped, and so did my motivation to get things done. Now that I'm working again and need to balance work life, being a mom and still wanting to make time for me I create lists like it's my job. Just something about physically seeing everything that needs done written down and checking things off as I go makes me more motivated throughout the day. Just take it one task at a time and see how productive your day ends up being!

2. Routines. Along with to do lists, I swear by a routine for getting things done. I recently got my new Erin Condren planner and I have been writing my weeks out like a crazy person. When you're balancing so much, having a routine is just a great way to ensure you stay productive while also staying sane!

3. Breathe! Mondays are always the most stressful because you're trying to recoup from the weekend while making sure you get everything done and we always forget to just relax and take a deep breathe. So step away from what you're doing for five minutes and just breathe. Something so simple that can help with having a productive day!

4. Little bit of coffee, lots of water. I don't know about you, but when I drink a lot of coffee I get all jittery and can't focus 😂 Drinking water doesn't necessarily mean you'll have a productive day but it's a great start to the week and will keep you feeling energized.

5. Have a positive mindset. Almost all of us are guilty for having the "ugh it's Monday, Mondays suck" mindset. Trust me, at one point I had that mindset but really it helps nobody. Sure, you hate your 9-5 job or just simply wish you had more time to spend with the people you love but the mindset you have at the beginning of the week sets the tone for how the remainder of your week will be. Plus when you're in a bad mood are you really motivated to have a productive day? Remind yourself that Mondays are for fresh starts and it's a good day.

I hope these tips helped you to have a productive day! What do you do to say productive?

Review Of Our Most Used Baby Products

When I was doing polls on which topics you'd all like to see more of from me a lot of you suggested sharing our favorite baby products. But remember, every baby is different. My mom said my brother and I hated swings as babies but Izzy loves hers. One of my good friend's her son hates pacifiers and Izzy is all for them, I mean you just never know! However, I still wanted to share + review our most used items and hopefully it makes your baby shopping a little easier!

Shop these items by clicking the pictures at the bottom of this post.

Before we had Izzy I already knew I wanted to try the Hello Bello brand and now that we've gotten the chance to use majority of the products it's safe to say we love them! Their diapers are the only brand we've tried so far but people have said their exactly like the Honest brand, but more affordable. I also loveee using the body wash and lotion in the vanilla apricot scent!

Not everyone considers a diaper pail a necessity but y'all, this thing has saved Izzy's room from smelling like dirty diapers 24/7. But prepare yourself for when you open it to throw a diaper away.. gross 😂

We tried regular swaddle blankets with Izzy but she would break free of them 24/7, no matter how tight we put it. We received a SwaddleMe Swaddle for our baby shower and they have been amazing! Our little Houdini can't break free of these!

When we first tried pacifier's with Izzy she wouldn't take any of them except the WubbaNub. She takes anyone we give her now, but especially loves her WubbaNub! She sometimes cuddles with the giraffe and it's just the cutest thing!!

We love this travel system! It's extremely helpful being able to just take out the carseat and click it right into the stroller!

Everyone has different opinions on which pillow they prefer, but I personally love our Boppy! Tyler even uses it when he feeds Izzy, so it's both mom and dad approved.

Tyler thought me wanting this bassinet was the most ridiculous thing, but I'm sure if you asked him he'd say it's one of his favorite most used items for Isabella. We keep this in our room for when Izzy is having a fussy night and doesn't want to sleep in her crib. It's nice having a safe and cozy spot for her to sleep next to us!

Rock 'N Play

Honestly I think Izzy will nap anywhere you put her, but we personally love putting her in her Rock 'N Play. We keep it in the living room so when we need a free hand we'll just put her in there and she'll nap away! And yes, we know there have been recalls on these but we always make sure Izzy is buckled in and safe!

5 Ways To Wear It: Snakeskin Dress

Happy Monday! I think I'm just going to make '5 Ways To Wear It' a weekly series because the past two weeks this has been my topic. But what can I say - You should all know by now my love for a versatile wardrobe and I want to help all of you get the most out of yours! I styled my newly favorite snakeskin dress five ways that are great for fall and they can even be transformed into your winter wardrobe as well.

You can pair anything with a good leather jacket but I have to say the snakeskin and leather is my favorite combo! While the leather jacket already gives it an edgy vibe, I finished the look off with studded booties which was the perfect compliment to the edginess. However, if edgy isn't your style or you simply just want to wear something other than booties, white or black sneakers would be perfect to finish the look off!

A great way to incorporate a snakeskin dress into your work wardrobe. The velvet blazer (or even any black blazer) compliments the dress perfectly! You can also swap out the heels for a simple pair of black flats for a comfier look.

My favorite look of them all! The weather still hasn't cooled down enough for me to actually wear this, but as soon as it does I'll be wanting to rewear this look all the time. It's a simple look to recreate and it's also comfy. You could wear booties to dress the look up a little or completely dress it down with sneakers. So many options! Style tip: if you ever want to layer a dress with a sweater but don't want it to just hang down but a belt on and tuck it into that.

The last and most obvious way to style this dress - by itself. I styled it with a wool hat and booties for the perfect fall look but you could go about styling this dress any way you want! Throw your hair back and put some sneakers on for a quick on-the-go look or add heels for a dinner date!

What's In My Newborn Diaper Bag

I was clueless when it came to putting together my hospital bag and I was clueless when it came to putting together a diaper bag. Let's just say Pinterest is your best friend when it comes to this kind of stuff. I looked through a bunch of 'Newborn Diaper Bag Essential' posts before I finally got an idea of what I really needed and at the end of the day each diaper bag is going to be different because every newborn is different and requires different things.

I haven't been out much with Izzy yet, considering she's only one month old. But she's been to the pediatrician and she's had relatives watch her a few times. She doesn't need much at this stage of life but as a mom you always want to make sure you have everything for those 'just incase' moments. As a first time mom here's my newborn diaper bag checklist.

I got my diaper bag from Freshly Picked and it's my absolute favorite! I read reviews from moms saying it's too small and lacks pocket space but I 100% disagree. This diaper bag is not only fashionable but it's so spacious! I used it for my hospital bag where I packed a decent amount and it fit everything no problem. I also think it has plenty of pockets, however I got diaper bag organizer pouches to prevent it from getting cluttered.

WHAT'S IN MY NEWBORN DIAPER BAG?

Swaddle Blanket: A swaddle blanket can account for many things. An extra way to keep baby warm, a changing mat, burp cloth, car seat cover, etc etc.

Multi-Use Cover: This can also be used as a car seat cover or blanket if needed, but also as a nursing and pumping cover, shopping cart cover and high chair cover.

Burp Cloth/Bib

Formula Dispenser: This is great to have with at least enough formula for one bottle if baby is formula feeding. It can also be used when the time comes as a snack cup

Hand Sanitizer: My favorite brand is Hello Bello.

Dreft Stain Removal Stick

Changing Pad: My diaper bag came with a changing pad, but I did research before knowing that and there are so many good options out there!

Babyganics Hand Sanitizing Wipes: These are great for wiping things down or cleaning up any spills.

Mittens/Socks

Extra Pacifier: I keep mine in a pacifier bag so it doesn't get dirty.

Wipes/Extra Diapers

Nourisher Bars: Snacks for mom (and dad) are important to keep in the diaper bag, especially something you can take out and easily eat. I like having these specific bars on hand because they cater specifically to moms and postpartum recovery by including all of the bodies essential nutrients. They also have bars for every stage of pregnancy - Prenatal, postnatal and milkful nursing bars. Use code "asmalltownfashionista" for 20% off your order!

Packing for a newborn can be overwhelming and tricky, so I hope my checklist helps you in the process!
